In 1947 Father John Manning, who was Dean of the Music School at Duquesne University
in Pittsburgh, arrived in Chippewa Falls to be the new Pastor of Notre Dame. Father Manning, who
was a most gifted speaker, was in great demand as a church and banquet speaker. And because he was
such a great musician, he saw the necessity of the purchase of the new organ. Father Manning's untimely
death in August 1953 plunged the entire area, and especially the parishioner, into deep sadness. Serving
Father Manning as assistants during these seven years were Fathers Edward Malloy, Colvard, O'Neil,
Francis X. Walsh, John Baney, Cronan and Siegfried Eckert.
