Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism
|
Because we are all children of Adam and Eve, we are born with Original Sin. It is necessary to cleanse ourselves of all sin in order to share in God's life, the life of Grace. Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration by water and the word. More simply: The waters of Baptism wash away Original Sin in order for us to be filled with Grace. St. Thomas Aquinas gives this definition: "Baptism is the external ablution of the body, performed with the prescribed form of words." |

The form is: I baptize thee in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Baptism is a time of joy both for the individual and for our family, the Church. A new soul given to Christ is cause for a great rejoicing in Heaven. Baptism at Notre Dame requires the individual or parents to attend Baptism Preparation Classes with Father and/or a staff member. Classes are scheduled at various times according to need and availability. Please contact the church office for information about current Baptism Prep classes or receiving the Sacrament of Baptism. |
